Alma Alta sits on the eastern slope of Mt. Bross, with Lincoln and Cameron rising to the north and west, and Democrat just beyond them. The Lincoln Peak Trailhead is a 6-minute walk from the house; the Kite Lake Trailhead, gateway to the full DeCaLiBron loop, is a 30-minute drive. Montgomery Reservoir is a brief drive down into the valley, and Breckenridge — with everything it offers across every season — is 30 minutes away.

Winter

Skiing & Snowboarding — Breckenridge Ski Resort

30 minutes from Alma Alta. One of Colorado’s largest ski resorts with 187 trails, 34 lifts, and over 3,000 acres of terrain.  World-class skiing from November through April.

Cross-Country Skiing & Snowshoeing

Trails near Hoosier Pass and around Montgomery Reservoir are accessible directly from the property area.

Ice Fishing

Montgomery Reservoir offers ice fishing for rainbow trout and other species.  A unique high-altitude winter experience within minutes of the property.

The Alma Alta Wellness Circuit

The wood-fired sauna and Bullfrog X8 hot tub create an extraordinary winter experience — heat, cold mountain air, and covered privacy at 11,300 feet.


Spring, Summer & Fall

Hiking the DeCaliBron

Mt. Democrat, Mt. Cameron, Mt. Lincoln, and Mt. Bross — four Colorado 14ers accessible via the Kite Lake Trailhead (10.3 miles / 30-minute drive) for the full loop, or the Lincoln Peak Trailhead on Crest Drive — a 6-minute walk from the house — for a direct route up Lincoln.

Hoosier Pass & the Continental Divide

Hoosier Pass at 11,542 feet is one of Colorado’s most accessible high-altitude scenic drives, sitting on the Continental Divide with sweeping views in both directions.

Whitewater Rafting

Legendary rafting excursions on the Arkansas River in Buena Vista or on Clear Creek in Idaho Springs.

Distance: ~60 minutes - Buena Vista; ~80 minutes - Clear Creek

Fly Fishing

Montgomery Reservoir and the Middle Fork of the South Platte River offer world-class high-altitude fly fishing for rainbow and brown trout.

Mountain Biking

Wheeler Lake area trails offer excellent high-alpine mountain biking with dramatic elevation gain and unmatched views of the Continental Divide.

Breckenridge Summer

Mountain biking on 50+ miles of trails, the Breckenridge Music Festival, Peak 8 outdoor activities, hiking, and exceptional dining.  Summer in Breckenridge without the ski season crowds is one of Colorado’s best-kept secrets.

Seasonal Highlights

Spring (April–May)

Quieter, uncrowded, and beautiful.  Late ski season at Breckenridge often runs into April.

Summer (June–August)

Wildflowers, 14er hiking, cool mountain air.  Breckenridge summer festivals and fly fishing at peak season.

Fall (September–October)

Golden aspen, crisp mountain air, world-class hiking without crowds.  The hot tub and sauna feel extraordinary in fall air.
